BUNBURY MLA John Castrilli has welcomed the raft of
announcements made in Thursday’s State Budget set to benefit
the city.
Mr Castrilli said the 2009-10 State Budget delivered by
Treasurer Troy Buswell was a responsible plan designed for the
current economic downturn.
“The budget makes a record investment in jobs, infrastructure
and services,” Mr Castrilli said.
“The announcements made for Bunbury have delivered funding in
a wide range of important sectors which all help support
employment,” Mr Castrilli said.
“I have continually been working to see results delivered for
the city and this level of investment reaffirms the
Government’s commitment to Bunbury.”
The Budget includes strong spending on education and training
in Bunbury, including significant funding for upgrades to
schools plus investment in TAFE infrastructure.
“Funding for election promises in health, transport, policing
and community safety, sport and recreation and community
infrastructure including the Waterfront project has also been
delivered,” Mr Castrilli said.
“Stimulating our economy through infrastructure spending will
have an enduring economic effect of job creation and will help
us put a floor under the current downturn.”
The State Budget included $23.8 billion over four years for a
job-creating asset investment program as well as $155.1
million (2009-10) for training and job support measures.
“The Budget can also protect and secure the financial future
and State services for individuals, families and the Bunbury
community,” Mr Castrilli said.
“There are people in Bunbury facing the prospect of
unemployment but this Budget includes a record asset
investment program worth $8.3 billion this coming financial
year that will provide facilities for the community; protect
existing jobs and encourage job creation across WA.”
