Bunbury Hospital will have an Intensive Care Unit by early
2011, providing a vital service to residents of the city and
surrounds as part of a $14.9 million hospital redevelopment.
“The establishment of an ICU in Bunbury means many people
from the region requiring critical care will no longer have
to be transferred to Perth,” Bunbury MLA John Castrilli
said.
“The ICU is a vitally important element which has been
missing from our health campus in Bunbury, so I am extremely
proud we are able to deliver on our election promise of
proving an intensive care unit.”
“In addition to providing an ICU, Bunbury’s emergency
department will also undergo a major expansion as part of
the $14.9 million upgrade at the health campus.”
“I have been working for a long time towards seeing an ICU
delivered for Bunbury and am delighted to be able to
announce today that this work is set to deliver the facility
by early next year.”
In addition to four ICU beds, the number of ED treatment
spaces will increase from 15 to 27 and there will also be a
10-bed short stay/ observation unit.
WA Country Health Service will undertake a major
redevelopment to provide both ICU services and expanded
capacity in the emergency department of Bunbury Hospital.
