WHAT IS CHOOSE RESPECT
Choose Respect is a common language used to foster a “Culture of
Respect” in homes, schools, work places and communities. Choose
Respect has become a catalyst to bring people together to work for a
better and safer community.
It is not a bandaid solution for the
problems in our community, but aims to create a generational change.
Choose Respect focuses on the definition of
the word RESPECT – ‘respect is to treat with care and
consideration’. It simply asks us to make a conscious effort to
choose to treat with respect. It provides a fundamental shift from
focusing on the negative behaviour to calling people out to Choose
Respect.
However, respect needs to be explicitly
taught, so we need to re-educate and re-examine our values. Choose
Respect provides a ‘code of behaviour’ which outlines seven Choose
Respect values and a set of fundamental principles that work
together to provide a blueprint for fostering a culture of respect.
John Castrilli established the Choose Respect
Management Team in 2008 and obtained funding in 2009 to employ a
part-time facilitator.
The Bunbury Choose Respect Management Team has
been working with Gary Butcher, Managing Director of Choose Respect,
to help make Bunbury the first Choose Respect city – a community
where more people treat each other with care and consideration.
The members of the Choose Respect Management Team believe that we
all have the ability to make a difference in our community and by
Choosing Respect we can all make a positive change.
