Preserving public education
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli
believes investing in education should be a priority to secure a
bright future of our State and he has proven himself to be a strong
supporter of the city’s public and private schools.
John regularly visits
schools, meets with Parents and Citizens and Parents and Friends
committees and school administrators.
He was the key player
behind securing funding for planned upgrades to Bunbury Primary
School, Withers Primary School, Bunbury High School and South Bunbury
Primary School.
Other education issues
which John has supported include:
-
Assisting the fight for the additional funds required to complete
the promised upgrade of Newton Moore Senior High School. In August,
2007 after five months of intense lobbying by John and the school
community for the much-needed upgrade – the Carpenter Government
backed down and recommitted to its original promise.
- In
2007, John supported the South Bunbury Education Support Centre in
its successful submission for $98,000 of Federal funding for an
undercover playground.
-
John has been a big supporter of the school chaplaincy system and
has assisted Bunbury and Newton Moore Senior High Schools in that
regard.
-
While supporting the philosophy behind the Health Choices Program
for school canteens, John has lobbied the Carpenter Government over
the manner in which the program was introduced and the restrictions
it placed on Canteen Managers. Such lobbying efforts resulted in
changes to allow some flexibility to assist canteen managers.
