Reducing the road toll
During the past decade
more than 320 people have been killed on South West roads and that
number is rising steadily.
In May, 2007 John held a
road safety forum in which 62 youth from the region participated in
along with 50 community leaders.
Participants took part in
an interactive survey which painted an honest picture of what the real
problems were on our roads.
It was made clear at the
forum that most strategies being applied in WA are not working and are
not resulting in safer driving practices among all motorists, both
young and old.
John is also a member of
the Road Safety Parliamentary Committee that is looking to develop a
long-term, strategic road safety framework.
John has been and will
continue to be a loud voice on hoon issues and was successful in
assisting in the push to get the Carpenter Government to toughen
penalties.
Furthermore, John has been
and continues to be a strong advocate for upgrading and maintaining
the local road and rail network.
He looks forward to
projects such as the Port Access Road, Outer Ring Road Stage 1,
Greenbushes-Bunbury Rail and the completion of a feasibility study
into a fast rail link with Perth.
